Elizabeth Jean (Peach) Schmidt

Gladwin, Michigan - Elizabeth Jean Schmidt passed away peacefully on Friday, November 17, 2017 at Heavenly Homestead Foster Care in Gladwin. She was 91.

Elizabeth Jean was the first daughter, born on August 10, 1926 in Howell, Michigan to Truman and Edna Peach. She grew up with four brothers and one sister. Elizabeth Jean graduated from Howell High School in 1944 and became a "WW2 Rosie the Riviter" working at The Pistons in Howell , making parts for Allison Aircraft Engines. She entered into marriage with Erwin Alfred Schmidt after he returned from the U.S. Army after World War II in 1945. The couple spent 61 years together until his time of passing in 2007. Elizabeth Jean was a resident of Howell until 1985, when her and her husband moved to their vacation home in Marion, Michigan, while spending their winters in Punta Gorda, Florida, until purchasing their final retirement location in Houghton Lake, Michigan in 1998. She spent her career working numerous jobs in Howell at Red Band Motors in the early 1950's, D&C Stores as a cleark from 1959 through 1964, Schafer's House of Music as a clerk in Howell and a manager in Brighton until her time of retirement in 1977 at the age of 50. She enjoyed spending time outdoors camping, boating, hunting, fishing, snowmobiling and traveling the world. She cherished the time she spent with her grandchildren. Elizabeth Jean was a member of The Eastern Star and her and her husband were both members of The Nomads Travel Club of Detroit. She was also actively involved in the Howell Gun Club, Livingston Trailer Sailers Boat Club and the Marion EverReady Club.

Elizabeth Jean will be missed dearly by her son, Erwin W. (Wanda Anne) Schmidt of Lake Alrfred, FL; two grandchildren, Erwin Russell (Nita) Schmidt of Mesa, AZ and Elizabeth Anne Schmidt of Pompano Beach, FL; one sister, Marguerite Lieberman of Gladwin; and many other loving family members and friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 61 years, Erwin Alfred Schmidt, her parents and four brothers.

Funeral services will be conducted on Tuesday, November 21, 2017 at 12 noon at Fosnaught-Holdship Funeral Home. Interment will take place at a later date at Lakeview Cemetery in Howell, Michigan.
