Fred Edward "Ed" Bowman, 94, of  Houghton Lake passed away on Sunday December 31, 2017 at home with his loving family by his side.

Ed was born on July 19, 1923 in Merritt, Michigan to George and Aletha (Connor) Bowman. He grew up in the Houghton Lake area graduating from Houghton Lake Community Schools Stone School in 1942.  Ed served as a S Sgt in the Army during World War II.  Ed worked as a Real Estate Broker for Red Kiem Realty for many years. On April 3, 1987 in Houghton Lake, Ed was married to Carolyn Jean Kuntz. He was a member of St. John Lutheran Church, Houghton Lake VFW, and Prudenville American Legion.  Ed enjoyed bowling, working in his yard, and was an avid golfer.

Surviving Mr. Bowman are his loving wife of 30 years, Carolyn Jean Bowman of Houghton Lake; daughter, Sandy Morgan of Houghton Lake; three step daughters, Linda Gabler-Florian of Alabama; Robin Wyman of Houghton Lake, and Dawn (Tim) Wilson of Merritt;  two brothers, John Bowman of Houghton Lake, and Jack (Donna) Bowman of Holt; three sisters, Rhea (Joe) Bruno of Maryland, Joann (Cliff) Flanigan of  FL, and Mary Ellen (Steve) Hoag of Fl.; sister-in-law Lola Bowman of Houghton Lake; several grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.  Ed was preceded in death by his parents, sister, Marian VanSickle and brother George "Bob" Bowman.. 

Memorial services for Fred Edward "Ed" Bowman will be conducted at 11:00 am on Thursday January 4, 2018 from St. John Lutheran Church with Pastor Ted Voll officiating. Interment will be in Roscommon Township Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Wednesday January 3, 2018 from 3:00 pm to 7:00 pm at Christler Funeral Home, Houghton Lake Chapel.  Memorial contributions in memory of Ed are asked to be directed to Munson Hospice House, 450 Brook St, Traverse City, MI 49684.
