Gladys Alberta Turner

August 26, 1920 ~ June 9, 2017 (age 96) 96 Years Old


Gladys Alberta Turner, went to be with the Lord on Friday, June 9, 2017.  She previously lived in the Village of Lake and was a former longtime resident of Marion, the little village that she loved. Gladys has been a resident at North Woods Nursing Center in Farwell for the past seven years. She was 96 years old.
Gladys was born on August 26, 1920 in Billings, Montana to James Wolfe and Elvira Josephine (Barros) Ramsden.  At the age of five her family moved to a small farm near the town of Live Oak, FL where her father farmed and her mother was a county nurse. After graduation from Swannee High School, she and a close friend, Dorothy, each met and married young men who were visiting in Florida. Following her marriage to Irwin Linton Scott on May 10, 1942 in Live Oak, both couples settled in the Village of Lake, MI.  Gladys resided in Lake until the death of Irwin in 1957.  From this union three children were born. 
On February 24, 1961, Gladys married Gerald Eugene Turner from the Village of Marion. Gerald and Gladys lived in Marion nearly 50 years until his passing in 2011.  Gladys and Gerald had many years of enjoyable retirement on Big Pine Key, FL.  The couple also had many travels throughout Michigan, the United States, and Canada.
Gladys was a faithful member of the Marion United Methodist Church and the Big Pine Key United Methodist Church in the Keys. Gladys enjoyed her membership in the Chatterbox Club of Lake, the 20th Century Club of Marion, and the Sunshine Club in the Keys.  She was a member of the Eastern Star for 30 years.  While raising her family she participated as a 4H leader as well as a Sunday school teacher. Family and friends enjoyed eating homemade pies, cookies, and bread along with her home canned food.  Gladys was giving of her time and energy as she cared for her elderly parents. And later by taking meals to neighbors or someone that was ill both in Marion and Big Pine Key.
She was preceded in death by her first husband Irwin, her second husband Gerald, her parents James and Elvira, and a sister Marion (Leo Desmond) Armstrong of Jacksonville, FL.
Gladys is survived by her three children, Delores Lynn (Jerry) Mertens of Lake, Raymond James (Paula) Scott of Marion, and Paul Linton (Shelley) Scott of Marion; seven grandchildren, Brett (Paula) Mertens, Calista (Scott) Carter, Arend (Roxanne) Scott, Aric (Robin) Scott, Leslie (K.C.) Cox, Jessalynn (Steve) Yowell, and Betsy (Justin) Krchmar; 12 great-grandchildren with one on the way.  Although many have preceded her in death, she is still survived by a wealth of family and friends.
Visitation will be held on Sunday, June 11, 2017 from 2 until 4 p.m. and 6 until 8 p.m. at Fosnaught- Holdship Funeral Home in Marion. Funeral services will be conducted on Monday, June 12, 2017 at 11 a.m. with visitation held one hour prior at the Marion United Methodist Church.  Interment and committal services will follow at Greenwood Cemetery.
