Harold R. VanWyck

Cadillac, Michigan - Harold Russell VanWyck, longtime resident of Manton, formerly of Grand Rapids, passed away on Sunday, April 16, 2017 at the Serenity Adult Foster Care home. He was 87.

Harold was born on May 1, 1929, in Manton, Michigan to Warren and Lulu (Johnston) VanWyck. He was raised in the Manton area, attending and eventually graduating from Manton High School.  Harold made his living working as a welder for Steelcase celebrating over 22 years of service there before his eventual retirement. He was an avid outdoorsman, enjoying snowmobiling, fishing, hunting and even spent trips in the U.P. where he could hunt bear.   Harold was a proud member of the Manton Senior Center and served his country with the United States Marine Corp. 

Harold is survived by his six children; Sharon (John) Shoemaker,  Deb Clemenshaw, Pam (Joe) Perez, Mark VanWyck, Craig VanWyck, and Dawn VanWyck; his longtime friend and companion, Doris Ahern; 14 grandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren; as well as several other loving family members and friends. 

He was preceded in death by a son, Harold VanWyck, Jr.; one brother, Warren Jr.; his wife, Mary and second wife, Lydia VanWyck.

Graveside services will take place at Greenwood Township Cemetery following a brief time of visitation for friends and family from 11:00 am until 12:00 pm on Wednedsay, April 19, 2017, at the Hitesman-Holdship Funeral home in Cadillac.  Memorial contributions may be directed to the Dementia Society of America.
