James David Stroud Jr., 86, of  Houghton Lake passed away on Friday September 1, 2017 at home surrounded by his loving family.

Jim was born on December 20, 1930 in Whitmire, South Carolina to James and Virginia (Lawson) Stroud Sr.. He served as a fireman in the Air Force during the Korean War. On April 23, 1981 in Caryville, Tennessee, Jim married Janet G. Ferguson. Jim worked as a Committee Man in the UAW/General Motors. He was a member of the Houghton Lake Eagles, VFW, Masonic Lodge and former member of the Moose Lodge. He enjoyed playing golf at White Deer and Pineview, and playing on the pool league for Backdoor. "He was a true southern gentleman till the end."

Surviving Mr. Stroud are his loving wife of 36 years, Janet G. Stroud of Houghton Lake; children, Janice Wood, James David (Kathy) Stroud, Joseph(Kelly) Stroud, Richard Stroud, Edward (Debbie) Stroud, and Elizabeth (Michael) Villarreal; step children, Curtis (Heidi) Schatz, Rodnie Ann (John) Cook, Brian (Cheryl) Schatz, and Aimee (Dean) Smith; twenty five grandchildren and several great grandchildren; siblings, Barbara Sutherland, Ronald Stroud, Roy Stroud, and Steven Stroud; several nieces and nephews. James was preceded in death by his parents and brother, William Stroud. 

Funeral Services for James David Stroud Jr. will be held at Christler Funeral Home, Houghton Lake Chapel on Tuesday September 5, 2017 at 1 pm with Rev. Dr. Craig Hexham officiating. Visitation will take place on Tuesday Sept. 5, 2017 at the funeral home from 11 am until the time of the service. Interment will be in Great Lake National Cemetery, Holly, Michigan.
