Cadillac - Joseph Francis Southwick Sr., longtime Cadillac resident passed away unexpectedly on Saturday, March 31, 2018 at Munson Healthcare's Cadillac Hospital. He was 78.
Joe was born on December 3, 1939, in Cadillac to Joseph and Angela (Bechtel) Southwick. He proudly served as an MP with the United States Army from 1958 to 1964. Joseph entered into marriage in 1962 with the former Carol Ball, in Cadillac.
Joe retired from the Wexford County Road Commission following a long career of driving trucks that covered much of the county in both the summer and winter. He was a former member of the NRA as well as the Masonic Lodge. Joe had a passion for reading and would often be found on down time enjoying a good book. He loved to spend time around the house tinkering, working on the landscape, or involved in some carpentry project. He enjoyed vacationing with family and friends and will be remembered for his outgoing nature and ability to poke fun at others.
Joseph is survived by his wife, Carol Southwick of Cadillac; his children, Joe (Kathi) Southwick Jr. of Boon, Michelle Eneix of Cadillac, and Chris Southwick also of Cadillac; eleven grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; one sister, Jackie, as well as numerous other loving family members and friends.
Joe was preceded in death by his parents and two daughters, Robin Smith and Tammy Gingrich; a granddaughter, Christina; great-granddaughter, Natalie; and a great-grandson, Caden.
Per his wishes cremation has taken place and private family services will be held at Maple Hill Cemetery this spring.
