Mary Ann Mahaffy, 90, of Houghton Lake passed away on Sunday February 19, 2017 at Munson Hospice House in Traverse City with her loving family by her side.

Mary was born on November 13, 1926 in High Point, North Carolina to Cletus and Lena (Powell) Moore. She moved to the Houghton Lake area in the early 1960's. Mary had married John McEvers, who preceded her in death in 1969. Later she married Art Mahaffy, who preceded Mary in death in 1971. Mary worked as a cook in several area restaurants and then worked in housekeeping at the Soaring Eagle Casino for several years. For the last 12 years she has worked as a greeter at Walmart. Mary enjoyed bingo and going on casino trips. She loved taking care of her kids and spending time with her family.

Surviving Mrs. Mahaffy are her three daughters, Judy Hurley of Caro, Jo Ann (Kelly) Van-Y of Roscommon, and Joy (Mark) Kolka of Prudenville; three sons, Joseph McEvers of Houston, MN, John (Lisa) McEvers of Williamsburg, and Jerry McEvers of Houghton Lake; seventeen grandchildren; forty great grandchildren; two great great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews and special friend Dorothy Krammer. Mary was preceded in death by her parents; two husbands, John McEvers, and Art Mahaffy; daughter, Jeanette Green; two sons, James McEvers, and Jeffrey McEvers; sister, Kathleen Moore; four brothers, Charlie, Richard, Albert, and Bud; and special friend Floyd Payne. 

Celebration of Life Service for Mary Ann Mahaffy will be conducted on Saturday March 11, 2017 from 1 to 6 pm at the Roscommon Township Hall. Memorial contributions in memory of Mary are asked to be directed to the American Heart Association or Munson Hospice House. Christler Funeral Home-Houghton Lake Chapel is serving the family.
