McBain, Michigan - Opal Cora (Platz) Green, of Cadillac passed away on Monday, October 16, 2017 at Autumnwood of McBain. She was 90.

Opal was born on November 5, 1926, in Boon, Michigan to Oscar and Susie (Porter) Platz. She was the ninth of eleven children and attended Hoxeyville School. She entered into marriage with Harold Green on March 24, 1945, in Cadillac. After a short time in Georgia, the couple settled in Hobart, Michigan, where she spent her entire married life. The couple were together nearly seventy years, until his time of passing on March 15, 2014. After his passing she was moved to Autumnwood in McBain, where she spent the last two years. Opal worked many places until the time of her retirement, including Safety Mate and Four Stars. After retirement, she joined her favorite workplace, the Cadillac Senior Center, where she dedicated thirty years as a volunteer and a member of the Kitchen Band. Her hard work and commitment to the Senior Center was something she was very proud of and she will be miss by her friends there dearly.

Opal liked to be busy and dedicated much of her spare time to activities she enjoyed. She enjoyed gardening and was a member of the Cadillac Garden Club for many years. She also enjoyed sewing and handicrafts and was happy to pass her knowledge on. She was a member of the Highsteppers Square Dance Club and enjoyed music and dancing. Birdfeeders always were in front of her windows because she enjoyed watching the birds. She loved animals, especially her poodle, Freddie.

Opal's children and grandchildren were her pride and joy. She is survived by her three children, Marilyn (Charles) Myers of Mesick, Harold (Janet) Green of Traverse City and Charles (Mary) Green of Cadillac; five grandchildren, Chantelle (Jeff) Strong of Mesick, Angela (Larry) Daniel of Traverse City, Justin Green of Kalkaska, Heather Green of Kalkaska and Jennifer Fuller of Shelby Township; 12 great-grandchildren, Charles, Alexandra, William, Donovan, Tyler, Tanya, Andrew, Kyle, Wyatt, Kayden, Brayden and Brianna; a sister, Frances Sharp; and many other loving family members and friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Harold; her parents; two sisters, Ila and Edith; and seven brothers, Orval, Alfred, Ellis, Jay, Ray, Herman and Oscar.

A memorial gathering will be held on Monday, October 23, 2017 at 3 p.m. at the Cadillac Senior Center. Interment will take place at Cherry Grove Cemetery at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to the Cadillac Senior Center in Opal's memory.

The family would like to extend a special thank-you to the staff at Autumnwood for their care and attention to Opal.
