Robert F. Watson

May 9, 1939 ~ January 6, 2018 (age 78) 78 Years Old

Mesick - Robert Frederick Watson, of Mesick, passed away on Saturday, January 6, 2018 at his home with family by his side. He was 78.

Bob was born on May 9, 1939, in Pontiac, Michigan to parents, Fred and Elizabeth (French) Watson. He grew up in the Ferndale area and attended Lincoln High School, graduating from there before going on to Central Michigan University. Bob graduated with his Bachelors degree from CMU in 1961. Then on July 1 of the same year, he married his college sweetheart, Loretta Halberstadt in Milan, MI.

Bob did his student teaching in Cadillac, MI. However, he decided to work with the U.S. Department of Treasury. While working in Pontiac, MI, his daughter, Molly was born. His position within the IRS took the family to numerous areas as Bob would train new managers within the Treasury. They made their home in Washington D.C., Atlanta, GA, Birmingham, AL, and returned home to Michigan in 1982 making stops in Detroit and Traverse City.  Bob then retired and settled onto the property in Mesick fulfilling a life long dream of raising horses.

He could often be found at one of the many Mesick sporting events, known to most as "the man with the hats".  Bob enjoyed cheering on his hometown team and supporting the local youth.  He was strong in his faith and attended Minar Bible Church.  For over 20 years, Bob would gather with different sports teams prior to games or with students near the flag pole, or school, to lead a time of prayer. Bob's love for Christ was evident and will be missed along with his wit, humor and the joy he brought to so many.

Bob is survived by his wife of over 56 years, Loretta Watson of Mesick; his "favorite" daughter, Molly (Kurt) Jeppesen of Milan, MI; his "favorite" grandson, Konrad Jeppesen; one sister, Patricia Bromley of Texas; several nieces and nephews; as well as many dear friends and neighbors.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Memorial services will be held at the Minar Bible Church, located at 9400 West M-115 just Northwest of Mesick, on Saturday, January 13, 2018,  at 11:30 am, with visitation one hour prior.

Memorial contributions may be directed to the Minar Bible Church, Mesick Athletic Boosters, or Mesick Band Boosters.
