Grand Rapids, Michigan - Sandra Kay Hagstrom, of Cadillac passed away on Wednesday, October 4, 2017 at Mercy Health St. Mary's Hospital in Grand Rapids. She was 78.

Sandra was born on August 16, 1939, in Cadillac, Michigan to Neil and Mildred (Laurent) Whitney. She entered into marriage with Harry D. Hagstrom October 13, 1956, at Zion Lutheran Church in Cadillac. The couple spent over 40 years together until his time of passing on April 17, 1997. Her and Harry started a family of four boys together. Harry worked as a police officer and then later as Sheriff and Sandra as a Matron of the Wexford County Jail for four years. She was a co-owner of Hagstrom's Flower Shop at one time with some her family members. Sandra enjoyed being actively involved in the Cadillac and Manton communities. She liked to create and collect different pieces of art and even opened a small craft store called Colonial Gift Shop for a short period of time. On December 17, 1979 Sandra proudly purchased the Merry Inn Restaurant, which she ran for many years. In her younger years, Sandra would spend time outdoors gardening and canning her vegetables. Sandra loved holding court over coffee with friends and family at her kitchen table. She cherished her dog companion, Louie, and often spoiled him more than her own children. Sandra dedicated her life to caring for her family, especially for the comfort of her son, Stevie "Weasel".

Sandra is survived by her four sons, Harry (Sharon) Hagstrom of Cadillac, David (Lily) Hagstrom of Finksburg, MD, Steven Hagstrom of Cadillac, and Adam (Jerri Anne) Hagstrom of Cadillac; seven grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; three sisters; and many other loving family members and friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Harry; a grandson, Karl; sister, Jackie; daughter-in-law, Lois Hagstrom; and her parents.

Cremation has taken place and a family memorial service will be held at a later date.

Memorial contributions may be directed to the United Cerebral Palsy Fund.
