Virginia Ruth Averill, 90, of Prudenville passed away on Saturday February 17, 2018 at American House of Kentwood.
Virginia was born on December 18, 1927 in Weidman, Michigan to Joseph and Catherine (Gross) Gachter. Virginia grew up in the Weidman area graduating as Valedictorian of her class at Weidman High School. In August of 1947 Virginia was married to Asa L. "Ace" Averill, whom preceded her in death in 2002. The couple operated Ace's Imperial Service Station in Prudenville. She also worked at the Alpine Restaurant, was District Manager in cosmetic sales for Beauty Counselor Cosmetics, and spent many years as an Insurance agent at Redman's Insurance Agency, Forman's Insurance Agency, and Hudson Insurance Agency. She was a member of the Houghton Lake Wesleyan Church. Virginia enjoyed knitting and caring for her beautiful and bountiful flower gardens.
Surviving Mrs. Averill are her son, Larry Averill of Montrose; two daughters, Vicki (Doug) DeVries of Grand Rapids, and Michelle Averill of Prudenville; five grandchildren; ten great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews. Virginia was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Asa L Averill; daughter-in-law, Jean Averill; brother, August Gachter; six sisters, Julia Boge, Irene Shockey, Vera Bierschbach, May Denton, Naomi Graham, and Catherine Newell.
Funeral Services for Virginia Ruth Averill will be conducted at 11:00 am on Wednesday February 21, 2018 from Houghton Lake Wesleyan Church with Rev. Bryan Thompson officiating. Interment will be in Brookside Cemetery, West Branch. Visitation will be held on Tuesday February 20, 2018 from 4:00 pm to 6:00 pm at Christler Funeral Home, Prudenville Chapel and at the church on Wednesday from 10:00 am until the time of the service at 11:00 am. Memorial contributions in memory of Virginia are asked to be directed to Alzheimer's Association, P.O. Box 96011, Washington, D.C. 20090-6011.
