Herbert Mason Grahl, 80, of  Prudenville passed away on Tuesday March 19, 2024 at The Brook of Houghton Lake.

Herb was born on March 26, 1943 in Wyandotte, Michigan to Herbert and Violet (Kalash) Grahl. He grew up in the Wyandotte area where he graduated from Roosevelt High School. Herb went on with his schooling to become a tool and die inspector.  Herb worked as a Tool and Die Inspector for General Motors until his retirement. On May 10, 1964 in Garden City, Herbert was married to Dorothy  Carnahan. He moved to Houghton Lake from Inkster in 2014, following the death of his beloved wife, Dorothy. Herb attended the Houghton Lake Church of Christ and occasionally Markey Community Church. He was an antique dealer and surrounded his workshop with antiques, especially tools.  Herb enjoyed woodworking and gunsmithing, repairing and making anything from guns to dulcimers.  He loved working as a tinsmith along with other jobs at Greenfield Village in Dearborn for many years following his retirement.  His special passion was working on Model T cars.

Surviving Mr. Grahl are two sons, Tim (Nancy) Grahl of Houghton Lake, and John (Diane) Grahl of New Boston; six grandchildren, Miles, JoMarie, Max, Autumn, Liam, and Violet; sister, Ann (Steve) Rieger of Roscommon; brother, Jack (Anita) Johnson of KY; several nieces and nephews.  Herbert was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Dorothy Grahl; brother, Gary Johnson; and nephew, Steven Rieger. 

Memorial Services for Herbert Mason Grahl will be conducted at a later date. Interment will be in Cadillac Memorial Gardens West in Westland. Memorial contributions in memory of Herbert are asked to be directed to the Michigan Christian Youth Camp, 820 N. Lake George Road, Attica, Michigan 48412.
