Richard Winship Obituary

Richard Arthur Winship, 85, of  Houghton Lake passed away on Friday March 15, 2024 at his home.

Richard was born on October 20, 1938 in Detroit, Michigan to Francis and Marguerite (MIler) Winship. He grew up in Detroit, graduating from Detroit Mumford High School and later Wayne State University with a degree in engineering.  Richard served as an AT2 in the Navy during the Korean War. He worked as a Design Engineer for Ford Motor Company and then later for General Motors. On July 28, 1983 in Ferndale, Richard was married to Mary Turner.  Richard was a past member of the Houghton Lake Elks, and a member of the NRA.  He was a history buff, and enjoyed nature, especially the animals that visited the yard around the home.  For 38 years the couple spent vacation time in Florida, which Richard loved and looked forward to.  

Surviving Mr. Winship are his loving wife of 40 years, Mary Winship of Houghton Lake; three daughters, Anne (Don) Johnson of TX, Kari (Andrew) Clark of Mears, and Honey (Andrew) Sander of Tustin; two step sons, Gary (Dawn) Turner of SC, and Terry (Tami) Turner of CA; 11 grandchildren; and 15 great grandchildren.  Richard was preceded in death by his parents.
