Lake City, Michigan- Alice Irene (Willis) Swanson "Tootie" passed away on Sunday, August 5, 2018 at the Maple Ridge Assisted Living Home in Lake City. Alice was born in Cadillac on October 30, 1919 to Eli Franklin and Minnie (Mishler) Willis, who owned the Willis’s Grocery Store in Cadillac. She was the youngest of eight children.
Alice spent the majority of her 98 years in Cadillac where she met her husband of 67 years, Melbern Swanson. They married in Pontiac on July 3, 1937 and together they raised three girls. Alice was an exceptional golfer winning many tournaments and trophies. She loved the great outdoors and spent lots of time fishing and camping with family. After retirement, Alice and Melbern would spend winters in Florida, where she spent her time shuffle boarding, golfing, and enjoying precious time with her many friends. She also spent many hours reading and doing puzzles during her later years. Alice will be remembered most by her family and friends for her sense of humor, beautiful smile, and contagious laugh.
She is preceded in death by her loving husband, Melbern; daughter, Kadonna Primeau; her father and mother, Franklin and Minnie Willis; seven siblings; one grandson; and two great-grand-daughters.
She leaves behind two daughters, Charlene (John) Polk, and Dixie Swanson; 10 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; several great-great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
There will be no funeral or memorial upon her final requests.
