Barbara J. Rider

Maple City - Barbara Jean Rider, of Maple City, formerly of Lake City and Midland, passed away with family by her side on Thursday, February 14, 2019 at the Maple Valley Nursing Home near Maple City. She was 91.

Barbara was born on December 16, 1927, in Midland to Elmer and Ernesteen (Ohlrogee) Sweebe. She entered into marriage with Dale William Rider in Midland on June 6, 1947. He preceded her in death following nearly 49 years together in 1996.

Barbara was never one to sit idle she could often be found out in the yard tending to yard work or her flower gardens. She took pleasure in watching and feeding the birds, as well as caring for her cats. In earlier years, she would support the church with her time and talents; serving as a former board member, participating in the choir, working on the luncheon committee, teaching Sunday school, and even sewing costumes for holiday events. Barbara was a faithful friend, cherished mother, and supportive grandmother, who will be deeply missed.

Barbara is survived by her son, Michael (Linda) Rider of Maple City; two grandchildren, Jeffery (Kathi) Rider and Sarah (Chris) Shaw; five great-grandchildren, Karlee, Abigail, Emily, Felix, and Laila; a sister, Pat; two brothers, Ted and Mike; several nieces and nephews; as well as many other loving family members and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Dale; two brothers, Joe and Jack; and three sisters, Betty, Nancy and Judy.

Memorial services celebrating her life will be held at 11:00 am, on Saturday, April 6, 2019, at the Young-Holdship Funeral Home, with visitation one hour prior. A luncheon will be provided at the First Presbyterian Church following services.  Barbara will be laid to rest with her husband at the Lake City Cemetery.
