Barbara M. (Ballard) Havens

Barbara Marie Havens, age 91 of McBain, went to be with her Lord on January 26, 2019 at the Samaritas Senior Living Center in Cadillac.

Barbara was born October 2, 1927 in Ypsilanti to Milo and Estle (Brown) Ballard.  She married Harold B. Havens in April of 1949. He preceded her in death July 17, 1997.   Barbara was known as the Butterfly Lady and was a professional Grandmother.  She enjoyed TOPS and fishing and liked to crochet and bake for her grandchildren. She especially was fond of family gatherings during the holidays and hunting season.  Barbara attended Cadillac First Church of the Nazarene where she actively volunteered in nursery and church school  and at the Cadillac Heritage Christian School.  She owned a car dealership with her husband; Harold’s Auto Sales in McBain, and they also owned a dairy farm and raised beef cattle.

Barbara is survived by a daughter Sharon (David) Toft of Sharpsburg, GA, four grandchildren: Jennifer (Christopher) Dushane of Cadillac, Joshua (Heather) Havens of Avoca, Iowa, Benjamin (Megan) Toft of Newnan, GA and Larissa Ariate of Flint and eight great grandchildren: Harper and Natalie Toft, Lillian, Gabriel and Maverick Dushane and Veronica and Zander Hanna and Sterling Havens. 

She is also survived by a brother Jesse (Diana) Ballard of Ferndale, Washington, a daughter in law Maria Havens of McBain, brother in law Ralph Duede of Ypsilanti, and special friend and former daughter in law Vicki Dorland of Big Rapids .

Barbara was preceded in death by her parents, a sister Crystal Duede and a son Lawrence Havens.

Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. on Friday, February 1, 2019 at the Cadillac First Church of the Nazarene with Pastor Steve Lalone officiating.  Visitation will be on Thursday, January 31, 2019 from 5:00 to 8:00 pm at the Young-Holdship Funeral Home in Lake City and also beginning at 10:00 am on Friday, at the church until the time of services.

Burial will take place in the spring at the Mount View Cemetery in McBain.
