Barbara G. (Gaige) Nieman

Barbara G. Nieman, 91, of Houghton Lake Heights passed away on Friday September 14, 2018 at The Brook of Houghton Lake with her loving family at her side.

Barbara was born on September 5, 1927 in Manchester, Michigan to Melvin and Della (Wilde) Gaige, youngest of eleven. She grew up in Manchester and later in Adrian where she graduated from Adrian High School. On June 22, 1946 in Adrian, Barbara was married to Russell Nieman. Barbara worked as a baker for Carter's Grocery of Houghton Lake for many years. She was an active member of Houghton Lake United Methodist Church, United Methodist Women and the American Business Women's Association. Barbara enjoyed crocheting, knitting, and quilting, making quilts for all the grandchildren. Her special love was spending time with family and enjoying the grandchildren.

Surviving Mrs. Nieman are three sons, Tom (Peggy) Nieman of Blissfield, Martin (Pat) Nieman of Evart and Albert Nieman of Blissfield; daughter in law, Donna Nieman of Houghton Lake Heights; nine grandchildren; eight great grandchildren; brother, Lawrence Gaige of Manchester; and several nieces and nephews. Barbara was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Russell Nieman; son, Duane Nieman; daughter in law, Karilyn Nieman; five sisters, Vesta Gaige, Thelma Miller, Dorothy Frank, Wilda Esch and Gloria Hamann and four brothers, Charles Gaige, Judson Gaige, William Gaige and  Albert Gaige. 

Funeral Services for Barbara G. Nieman will be conducted at 11:00 am Tuesday September 18, 2018 from Houghton Lake United Methodist Church with Rev. George Spencer officiating. Interment will be in Roscommon Township Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Monday September 17, 2018 from 4:00 pm to 7:00 pm at Christler Funeral Home, Houghton Lake Chapel.  Memorial contributions in memory of Barbara are asked to be directed to the Houghton Lake United Methodist Church Ina Brunson Fund. Christler Funeral Home, Houghton Lake Chapel is serving the family.
