Bonnie Lou (Anderson) Heckathorn

Marion - Bonnie Lou Heckathorn, longtime resident of Marion passed away at home with family by her side on Thursday, May 23, 2019. She was 79.

Bonnie was born on January 4, 1940, in Woodbury, Michigan to David G. and Velma M. (Long) Anderson.  Her family relocated in 1950 from Lake Odessa which lead to a chance encounter with her future husband, Keith Arthur Heckathorn.  In Clare County on May 20, 1961, the two were joined in holy matrimony celebrating 58 years together this past Monday. 

Bonnie was a homemaker and mother to her two children, Howard and Diane.  In addition, she made a living working with Riverside Electric and the Riverside Inn prior to their closing.  Eventually she settled in as a cook with the public elementary school in Marion for a number of years before retiring.  Bonnie could often be found crocheting or knitting, creating many beautiful pieces displayed at home or given to friends and family.  She enjoyed watching the birds who would come to visit her feeders at home just outside the window.  Bonnie was a very proud and caring mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.   

Bonnie is survived by her husband, Keith of Marion; her children, Howard (Tamara) Heckathorn of Marion, Diane (Robert) Wentzlof of Marion; four beloved grandchildren, Chad, Jessica (Jory), Aaron, and Darrick; four great-grandchildren, with another eagerly anticipated this July; one brother, Dick Anderson; as well as many other loving family members and friends.  

She was preceded in death by her grandson, William in 2011; two brothers, Doug and Jack, as well as her parents.

Funeral services will be take place at 11:30 am on Saturday, May 25, 2019 at the Fosnaught-Holdship Funeral Home, with visitation one hour prior.  Officiating will be Rev. Jim Mort.  Interment will follow at the Greenwood Cemetery in Marion. 

Memorial contributions may be directed to Hospice of Michigan or the Commission on Aging.
