Cadillac - Carl A Rydquist, longtime resident and former owner of a Clam Lake Township centennial farm, passed away on Wednesday, June 6, 2018 at Green Acres Retirement Home. He was 89.
Carl was born on January 25, 1929, in Cadillac to John and Olive (Finstrom) Rydquist. He was raised on the farm his grandfather homesteaded in 1871 and became a graduate of Cadillac High School. Carl proudly served his country as a member of the United States Army. In 1956, he entered into marriage with the former Charlotte Williams in Louisville, KY.
Carl worked the family farm, producing milk and growing potatoes for the majority of his life. He also was a fieldman for the Wexford County Soil Conservation. In addition, Carl was an active township resident and community minded. Carl gave of his time, energy and effort, serving as Clam Lake Township treasurer for over 30 years. He was a faithful and lifelong member of Zion Lutheran Church.
Carl is survived by his son, John (Amy Dolezal) Rydquist of Cadillac; son, Peter (Geralyn) Rydquist of Virginia; one grandson, Jason Rydquist of Oregon; as well as many other loving family members and friends
He was preceded in death by his parents and his wife, Charlotte in 1991.
Funeral services will be held at 11am on Monday, June 11th at Zion Lutheran Church, with visitation one hour prior. Officiating will be Rev. Scott Torkko. Interment will take place at the Hobart Lutheran Cemetery in Cadillac. Memorials contributions may be directed to Zion Lutheran Church.
