Cassie "Peggy" M. Strauch

Peggy M. Strauch, longtime resident of Marion, passed away Monday, April 16, 2018 at Munson Healthcare's Cadillac Hospital. She was 89.

Born Cassie May Fox on June 1, 1928, in Pontiac, to Stanley and Bessie (Murphy) Fox. Peggy was raised and attended school in Charlevoix until the 9th grade, after which she attended and was a graduate of Coleman High School. On November 9, 1946, she entered into marriage with Robert "Bob" Strauch at the Presbyterian Church in Coleman, MI.

Peggy and Bob settled in Marion as he worked for Michigan Gas Storage and she worked part-time at Gambles downtown. Her love for children led her to work as the secretary at Marion elementary school, a job she cherished, eventually retiring in 1982. Peggy truly enjoyed watching her children and grandchildren grow, play sports, and begin families of their own. She spent many winters in Zephyrhills, Florida at the CAV Park and created a large network of friends she kept in touch with throughout the year. Peggy was a vital part of the Marion United Methodist Church; she loved the Lord and found joy in helping with their missions. She enjoyed spending time gardening, canning, crocheting, knitting, and sewing. Peggy treated everyone as if they were a long-lost friend. She had a rare ability to make people feel important and loved, and not surprisingly, they instantly loved her back. She always made time to chat with people she met along the way. Peggy was often behind schedule, but well ahead in terms of purpose and passion.

Peggy is survived by her loving family; her daughter, Carol (David) Crozier of Lake Odessa, son, Robert (Marilyn) Strauch of Massachusetts, daughter, Annette (Barry) Prielipp of Marion, daughter, Lorraine (Dennis) Buttermore of Rockford, daughter, Paula (Frank) Tignanelli of Laingsburg, MI; grandchildren, Keith (LaVerne), Eric (Marie), Marc (Judy), Dennis (Courtney), Micah, Sarah (Lee), Joel (Brandi), Cade (Danyel), Jeremy (Kellie), Becky, Andy (Mollie), Amy (Joe), Tye, Nichole (Dustin), and Samantha (Tommy); 30 great-grandchildren; 8 great-great-grandchildren; one sister, Kathleen Fox; two sisters-in-law, Janice (Stuart) Gordon and Marian Strauch; as well as many other loving family members, friends and neighbors.

Peggy was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Strauch in 2007; her parents, Bessie (Robert) Ellis and father, Stanley; and two brothers, Albert Fox and Steve Ellis.

Funeral services will be held at the Marion United Methodist Church​ on Saturday, April 21, 2018 at 12:00 noon, with Rev. Jim Mort to officiate. Visitation for friends and family will also be held at the church from 11:00 am until the time of the service. Interment will take place at Greenwood Cemetery at a later date in the spring.
