Catherine "Cathie" Marie (King) Coleman

Southfield, Michigan- Catherine Marie "Cathie" Coleman, of Southfield, passed away unexpectedly on Sunday, January 13, 2019 at her home in Southfield. She was 65.
 
Cathie was born on June 7, 1953 to Lawrence LeRoy and Faith June (Winters) King in Highland Park, Michigan. Cathie was attended Cadillac High School and later graduated with her degree in Health Administration from Madonna University. Cathie enjoyed teaching and mentoring her many students. She believed that her legacy was teaching others so that they could have the same passion and enthusiasm for the care of seniors that she had. Cathie started her career as the activity director for Lakeview Lutheran Manor in Cadillac. She later became the activity director at the Medilodge Corporation, as well as being the inspiration behind programs, such as senior prom and senior Olympics. She furthered her education by earning her Master's degree from Madonna University and becoming a full-time consultant for MEPAP. She loved enhancing the lives of seniors in any way that she could. Cathie was a great mentor and could inspire any one with her charismatic personality and unwavering support. She loved going to Detroit Tigers baseball games with her brother Larry and her companion Brian. She was an enthusiast of the preforming arts and enjoyed attending performances at the Fox Theater any chance she got. Cathie cherished the time spent with her family, especially her many nieces and nephews. She will always be remembered as the life of the party. She could light up any room with her animated story-telling skills. Cathie was a beloved daughter, sister, aunt and friend.

Cathie is survived by her mother, Faith J. King; siblings, Michael H. (Tresa) King of Riverton, WY, Larry A. (Ellen Marie) King of Mesick, Michele J. (Robert) Duranceau of Merrill, WI and Christine (Gord) Stephens of Beeton, Ontario, Canada; nieces and nephews, Kurtis (Rachel) King, Devin (Audrey) King, Aaron King, Megan (Bryant) Collins, Marie (Brandon) Jones, Larry L. (Chris) King, Caroline King, Christina Kratky, Sabrina (Jacob) Ruby and Rebecca Kratky; great nieces and nephews, Miles, Mollie, Graham, Faith, Adrianna, Phoebe, Evelyn, Leroy, Josef and one on the way; companion, Brian Coleman; and many other loving family members and friends.

She was preceded in death by her father, Lawrence LeRoy King.
 
A celebration of life will be held on Thursday, January 17, 2019 at 1 p.m. with visitation held one hour prior at Hitesman-Holdship Funeral Home.
