Dale Hobson Obituary

A proud US Army Veteran joined the spiritual forces of our Lord today.  Dale Wayne Hobson, 76, of Houghton Lake and St. Ignace passed away at home in Houghton Lake on January 30, 2019 surrounded by his loving family.  Dale was born October 22, 1942 to Georgia Luella(Green) and Clarence Earl Hobson at Bishop Hospital, 409 East St. Clair St., Almont, Michigan.  Dale Grew up in Almont and graduated from Almont High School in 1961 before immediately enlisting in the U.S. Army.  While serving in the Army, Dale spent most of his time in Germany.  After an honorable discharge from the U. S. Army, Dale joined the Detroit Police Department on April 25, 1966.  He served as a patrolman with the Detroit Police until 1968 and then went to work at Pontiac Motors as a security officer for ten years.  He eventually owned his own produce business known as Dale's Little Market working out of many areas, including the Detroit Eastern Market, before retiring in April of 1998 and moving to Houghton Lake.

Dale was a member of the American Legion for almost 50 years as well as a member of the Houghton Lake Moose Lodge 1616 and the Houghton Lake Eagles 3201, joining both when he moved to the Houghton Lake area in 1998.  In his earlier years, Dale loved to hunt and fish, loved socializing, and had a great sense of humor.  In his later years, Dale loved to sell tickets at the Houghton Lake Moose Lodge, loved being around people, and greatly enjoyed going to casinos, especially in St. Ignace as he could get there with his golf cart.  Dale was known for his love of ice cream and could eat a half gallon of ice cream, any flavor, by himself in one sitting.

Dale is survived by his wife Mary(Tamlyn) of Houghton Lake and St. Ignace; daughter and son-in-law Drs. Suzanne and John Chandler Dugger III of Augusta Georgia; twin sons, Daniel Hobson of Grandville and Richard(Rick Chizmadia) Hobson of Cincinnati, Ohio;  and daughter Rochelle Hobson of Chesterfield Township; brother, Roger(Barb) Hobson of Attica; sister, Linda(Bryan) Edwards of Lapeer; aunt Mable Matus of Marlette; brother-in-law Robert(Diane) Tamlyn of Rittman, Ohio; sister-in-law Carol(Kevin) McLean of Jeddo; brother-in-law Michael(Carolyn) Tamlyn of St. Ignace; sister-in-law Joanie(Vince Sova) Tamlyn of Cheboygan, as well as many cousins, nieces, and nephews.

A special thanks to Heartland Hospice of West Branch, Especially Amber(RN), Bonnie(CNA), and Jackie(RN), for their kind and gentle care, to the Houghton Lake EMS for the many service calls made to the home helping him back on his "feet", and to his many family and friends for making his last days the best possible.  The phone calls, especially were greatly appreciated and reminiscing about the "good ole days" was a great comfort for him.
