An Incredible woman, full of love and passion for life, family and friends. Approximately 1962, Doris and Joe took in a 2 ½ year old boy as part of Doris’ home daycare activities while his parents worked. The “home daycare“ for this little boy was really more than “daycare”, as his mother worked swing shift as a nurse and the care for this little boy changed from days, to afternoons, to midnights….every 6 weeks.
In just a few short years, that “home daycare” turned into so much more. That little boy was basically (informally) adopted by the Brenneman family, gaining a brother, a sister, 2 additional sets of grandparents, additional sets of Aunt/Uncles, cousins, great Aunts, and a great Grandfather. Most importantly, this little boy gained (informally) adopted parents in Doris (Dot) and Joe, …who helped guide, teach, lead, and love this little boy, at a time he needed it most in those early formative years, and within some challenging circumstances in this little boy’s personal family at the time. This “adoption” did not end when Doris ended her home care activities, and continued on as this boy became an adult.
This all began 55 ½ years ago, and that little boy is me, and I am 58. I am so thankful and blessed to have had a Second Mother in Doris. She made a huge difference in my life and she will forever be in my heart.

She loved you like a son and we, as a brother. The entire experience has made us all who we are today.

Doris was one of a kind and a very special lady. She was my dad's best friend while he was at Bell Oakes. He enjoyed going to church with her and also playing Rumicube after supper. She will be missed by so many. She was like another mother to me.
