Gladwin, Michigan-Doris Marie Hammond, of Gladwin, formerly of Harrison, passed away on Thursday, October 11, 2018 at The Brook Of Gladwin Retirement Community. She was 90.
Doris was born on January 15, 1928, in Grand Rapids, Michigan to Newton Lincoln and Mary Meda (Borwe) Dieterle. Doris entered into marriage with Harvey John Hammond on November 30, 1945 in Beal City, Michigan. Doris spent her career working for Mutual Savings in Mount Pleasant as a loan officer. She was a co-owner of The Bud Lake Motel in Harrison. Doris also helped manage the Harrison Housing (Croze Manor) until her time of retirement. She was a member of the Women's Lions Club, Moose Lodge, and the Garden Club, all of Harrison. Doris enjoyed cooking, canning, gardening, crocheting, knitting, painting, dancing and snowmobiling. She was a faithful member of the Browns Corners Church in Clare.
Doris is survived by her children, Deborah (Randy) Heber of Midland, John (Cheryl) Hammond of Houston, TX, and Becky Groves of Midland; 18 grandchildren; 37 great-grandchildren; 8 great-great-grandchildren; sisters, Nancy (Carl) Henry of Ohio and Sandy (Richard) Hathcock of Perry, FL.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Harvey; sons, David Hammond, Thomas Hammond, Stephen Hammond, and infant son James Hammond; and a sister, Eleanor Strickland.
Funeral services will be conducted on Friday, October 19, 2018 at the Brown Corners Church 5540 S. Clare Ave. Clare, Michigan at 11 a.m. Visitation will be held at 10 a.m. until the time of services at the church, with Pastor Adam Bell to preside. Interment will take place at Maple Grove Cemetery in Harrison.
