Cadillac - George Michael Trahey, of Cadillac, passed away Monday, August 13, 2018 at Munson Medical Center. He was 78.
George was born October 9, 1939, in Detroit, Michigan to parents, George H. and Bessie (Svechota) Trahey . He entered into Holy Matrimony, with his high school sweetheart, the former Barbara Indre, on July 1, 1961. Following his graduation from Allen Park High school, George began making a living working with Wolverine Tube while attending University of Michigan. George eventually retired as Director of Nuclear Operations with Detroit Edison. Barb and George made the move to their lakeside vacation retreat in Cadillac over 20 years ago, becoming permanent residents. George stayed an active and important volunteer and advocate for the Special Olympics. He enjoyed time riding his bicycle and eventually his trike in later years. He will be missed by a loving family.
George is survived by his wife, Barbara of Cadillac; his daughter, Linda (John) Sniegowski; one son, Kevin Trahey; two grandchildren, Brandon and Kathryn; as well as many other loving family members, neighbors and friends.
He was preceded in death by his son, Michael in infancy; his brother, Robert.
A memorial Mass celebrating George's life will be celebrated at 11am on Thursday, August 16, 2018 at St. Ann's Catholic Church, with visitation one hour prior. The Rev. Michael Janowski will preside. Interment will take place at Our Lady of Hope Cemetery, downstate, at a later date. Memorial contributions may be directed to the American Heart Association or the Special Olympics Michigan.
