Cadillac, Michigan - Gilbert David Turner, of Marion passed away on Sunday, February 11, 2018 at Munson Healthcare Cadillac Hospital. He was 80.
Gilbert was born on November 26, 1937, in Cadillac, Michigan to Lonzo and Norma (Chadwick) Turner. He entered into marriage with the former Marsha Jane Wheeler on May 29, 1960 at the United Methodist Church in Marion. Gib was currently a volunteer firefighter with the Marion Community Fire Department of which he served for more than 57 years: having served as the Fire Chief for over 25 of those years. He enjoyed watching NASCAR races. Gib was well known as the owner the Marion Produce Company, which he operated until 1984. He spent the next 13 years working for the Osceola County Road Commission until his time of retirement. Gib also served on the Marion Village Council for several years.
Gib is survived by his loving wife, of over 57 years, Marsha; 5 children, David (Christine) Turner of Marion, Sheryl Turner of South Lyon, Russell (Tammy) Turner of Cadillac, Michael (Angie) Turner of Marion and Karen (Mike) Bockheim of Rockford; grandchildren, Katie (fiancé, Josh) Gunnett, Lauren (fiancé, Nick) Turner, Michael Bockheim, Camren Turner, Alyssa Akin, Kalob Turner, Kelsi Turner, Samantha (Adam) Goodwin, Phillip (Amanda) Boonstra and Taelor (Jordan) Sanborn; 8 great-grandchildren; 2 sisters-in-law, Kathleen (Bill) Kelso and Ardith Cutler; and many other loving family members and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, February 14, 2018 from 2 p.m. until 4 p.m. and 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. at Fosnaught-Holdship Funeral Home. Funeral services will be conducted on Thursday, February 15, 2018 at 1 p.m. with visitation held one-hour prior at the Marion United Methodist Church. Interment will take place at Greenwood Cemetery in the spring.
