Gordon Kirvan Obituary


Cadillac, Michigan- Gordon Bruce Kirvan, of Cadillac, passed away on Friday, July 12, 2019 at the Cadillac, MI.  He was 92.
 
Gordon was born on March 27, 1927 to Bruce and Amelia (Simon) Kirvan in Mecosta, Michigan. Gordon attended high school in Maple Rapids, Michigan . He enlisted in the U.S. Navy at the age of 18, but missed his graduation ceremony to serve and protect his country. Gordon met the love of his life while working at Federal Mogul in St. Johns, Michigan. Her name was Hilda Elaine Wanless. The couple entered into marriage on January 15, 1954 in St. Johns, Michigan. Shortly after marrying, Gordon and Hilda moved to Lansing, where Gordon began his 18 year truck driving career with Detroit Delivery, Inc. In 1972, Gordon and Hilda moved their family to Cadillac and purchased the Beacon Bar. They sold the Beacon in January 1989 and began retirement enjoying life with family and friends, golfing, gardening, reading and traveling. Retirement didn't last long for Gordon when he took a job with NBD bank as a courier, finally retiring in 1996. Gordon was a member of the American Legion, Teamsters Local, AmVets #110, and the Michigan Licensed Beverage Association.


Gordon is survived by his children, Sherry (Dan) Stafford, Barry (Sheri) Kirvan, Wayne Kirvan, and Sheila (Will) Vanderhoof all of Cadillac; grandchildren, Kurt (Ann) Stafford of Bloomfield Hills, Karey Scholten of Charlevoix, Gordon A. Kirvan of Cadillac, Patricia Kirvan of Carson City, Jennifer (David) Dehaan of Manton, Lauren (Jonathan) Townsend of Belleville and Nicole Vanderhoof (J.D. Vandervlucht) of Cadillac; special friend, Frances Williams; several great-grandchildren; and many other loving family members and friends.


He was preceded in death by the love of his life, Hilda, on August 4, 2000; his parents; grandson, Ryan Stafford; brothers, Wayne and Alden Kirvan; and sisters, Evelyn Underwood, Joyce Stoddard and Ione Riley.
 
Funeral services will be conducted on Thursday, July 18, 2019 at 12 p.m. with visitation held one hour prior at Hitesman-Holdship Funeral Home. Rev. Scott Torkko will preside. Military Honors will be provided by the Cadillac Area Honor Guard.
