Manton - Jamie Louise Nelson, longtime Manton resident, went to be with her Lord and Savior on Friday, May 10, 2019 at the age of 70.
She was born the daughter of Betty Drake on January 22, 1949 in Cadillac. While being stationed in Texas, she entered into marriage with Donald James Nelson, who was at the time serving his country as part of the United States Army. The couple celebrated 45 years together until Don's passing in 2014.
Jamie was an instrumental, active and valuable part of the Manton Baptist Church. She served in many functions and capacities including but certainly not limited to teaching Sunday School, Bible School, helping in the kitchen and the nursery as well as being part of the church's camp. Jamie always enjoyed a ride in the car with Don, spending time sewing or crocheting, or tending to their many vegetables in the garden. She had a passion for her family and grandchildren, enjoying the many opportunities they had together. She will be remembered for her love of animals and others, as an unselfish and giving caretaker, mother, grandmother, and friend to many.
Jamie is survived by her loving family, her children, Sheri (David) Christie of Manton, Donald (Brooke) Nelson, II of Manton, and Rachel (Russ) Trowbridge of Texas, daughter; nine grandchildren, Elisha (Eric), Amanda (Shayne), David, Breana, Wyatt, Austin, Landon, Colby, and Natalie; great-grandchildren, Hazel, Shepherd, Zander, and Zarabella, with another anticipated; two brothers, George Drake and Dick (Sandy) Slocom; a sister, Joyce "Sis" (Dennis) Gravatt; brothers-in-law, Terry (Gladys) Nelson, Rev. Ron (Lucy) Nelson, and Kay Silvers; sisters-in-law, Mary Nelson, Sharon Moomey, and Barb Nelson; many nephews and nieces, as well as many other loving family members and friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Donald; her mother, Betty Drake; brothers-in-law, Leonard and John Nelson; sisters-in-law, Betty Drake, Wanda Maes and Karen Silvers.
Funeral services will take place on at Manton Baptist Church on Wednesday May 15, 2019 at 12:00 noon with visitation one hour prior. Officiating will be Rev. Dan Hemmes. She will be laid to rest beside her husband, on their farm, at the Farnsworth Lake Family Cemetery.
