Jeanette "Jenny" Louise (Rohr) Marra

Jeanette Louise "Jenny" Marra, 87, of Houghton Lake passed away on Tuesday June 19, 2018 at home with her loving family by her side following a nine year battle with Alzheimer's.

Jeanette was born on October 19, 1930 in Dayton, Ohio to Dallas and C. Bernice (Friend) Rohr. Jenny grew up in the Dayton area and graduated in 1948 from Fairmont High School.  Following High School Jenny worked for Dayton Power and Light Company. She was married on September 2, 1949 in Dayton, Ohio to Samuel Patrick "Pat"  Marra. In 1950 the family moved from Big Rapids to Houghton Lake following Pat's Graduation from college for him to take a job at Hunt's Drug Store. After many years of working for Mr. Hunt the family bought Hunt's Drug Store and Jenny served as the Secretary. She was a homemaker and gave her unconditional love to her family, she was able to host family gatherings of over 20 people with ease and she made the best Pumpkin Pie ever. Jenny was a volunteer at Collins Elementary as a Reading Aid in Mrs. Johnson's room. Jenny was a member of  All Saints Episcopal Church, Prudenville, serving as a soloist and on the choir along with being on the Bishops Committee, and in later years St. Francis Episcopal Church, Grayling, where she volunteered with the Church Thrift Store. She was also a member of the Christian Women's Club, former President of Women of National Association of Retail Druggists, and the Red Hat Ladies. Jenny was an organist, pianist and an amazing soprano vocalist and sang for many weddings, funerals, and special events. She loved Jesus as her Savior and Lord and she prayed daily for her family and friends. The Living Bible was her favorite translation and many verses are underlined and notes in the margins of her Bible.

Surviving Mrs. Marra are her loving husband of 68 years, Samuel "Pat" Marra of Houghton Lake; two daughters, Rebecca (Mark) Davis of Warrenville, IL, and Janet Marra of Houghton Lake; two sons, Dana Marra of Houghton Lake; and Dave (Irene) Marra of Gilbert, AZ; her Norwegian daughter, former foreign exchange student, Bjorg (Ron) Rubin of Rochester Hills; seventeen grandchildren; twenty five great grandchildren; five great great grandchildren; brother, William Rohr of Kettering, OH; ten nieces and nephews; seventeen great nieces and nephews.  Jeanette was preceded in death by her parents; daughter, Nancy Bernhoft; and two grandchildren.

Funeral Services for Jeanette L. Marra will be conducted at 11:00 am on Tuesday June 26, 2018 from Houghton Lake Wesleyan Church with Rev. Elizabeth Chace, and Rev. Bryan Thompson officiating. Interment will be in Roscommon Township Cemetery.
