John H. Wade 78 of Lake City passed away Thursday Nov. 8th at Samaritas Living Center in Cadillac. John was born May 8th. 1940 at Sparrow Hospital in Lansing to Arthur and Ruth Helen Wade. He moved to Rhoby Rd in Lake City on his 6th birthday.
John married Evelyn Wagner on Aug 16, 1958. John is survived by his wife Evelyn of 60 years and have five children. Robin & Wayne Dekoekkoek of Falmouth, Randy & Laura Wade of Grandville, Sandy and Don Mulder of Caledonia, Rod & Jody Wade of Lake City and Tom and Dana Wade of Luther. 10 grandchildren Matthew Wade, Amy & Eric VandenBerg, Sara & John Hammond, Heather Wade, Amber & Bryan Diemer, Ashley & Matt Lubbers, Charles Wade, Abby & Pat Coleman, Alyssa & Nate Dieterman and Emma Wade and 5 great grandchildren Caleb, Mason, Analeigh & Autumn Vandenberg & Conner Wade.
John is also survived by two brothers Bill of Vicksburg and Mick of Lake City. Brother and sister in-laws Marge Mackenzie, Betty Wagner, Helen Wagner (Kip), Jay & Bethel Wagner, Butch Wagner, Margie & Jerry Phillips and Judy Wade.
We was preceded in death by his parents Art and Ruth Helen, in-laws Bill, Bobby, Mary Ann, Claude, Burdette and Judy Wagner.
John’s first job was driving tractor on the Corwin farm, then later at Ray’s Standard Service in Lake City. He work for the State of Michigan as a bridge supervisor, then for Kysor of Cadillac as night foreman and assistant night supervisor. He later went to work for Andy Goulder State Farm in Lake City for 6 years before taking over his own State Farm office in Kalkaska. John retired on Oct. 31, 2000 after 20 years of selling insurance.
In his younger years John was a talented mason specializing in stone fire places.
John’s interests included several trips to the casino where he enjoyed playing black jack, trips with the grandkids picking up rocks along Lake Superior where he made mailboxes, birdhouse and globes for all of his children. He also spent time with his family fishing and hunting.
John and Evelyn enjoyed traveling, they visited all but 4 states
He was very supportive of his kids and grandkids, always there for family celebrations, birthday parties sporting events, graduations and weddings
His favorite activity was spending time with his wife, children and grandchildren.
A funeral service will be held 11:00 a.m., on Tuesday, November 13, 2018 at the Young-Holdship Funeral Home in Lake City with grandson Eric VandenBerg officiating. Visitation will be 2:00 to 4:00 pm and 7:00 to 9:00 pm on Monday, November 12, 2018 at the funeral home.
