Traverse City, Michigan - Larry A. Gaylord, of Mesick passed away on Saturday, October 6, 2018.  He was 84.


Larry was preceded in death by his loving wife, Millie Gaylord and grandson, Joshua Hall.


He is survived by his brothers, W (Tim) Gaylord, Dennis (Pat) Gaylord and Peter Gaylord; sister, Peggy Gilcher; step-brother, Terry Cooley; Children, Cynthia Ann Hall, Larry Paul Gaylord and Bruce A. (Sandra) Gaylord; grandchildren, Matthew Hall, Clayton Hall and Andrew Gaylord; four great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews; and many good friends.


Larry attended Mesick Schools from Kindergarten to 12th grade and graduated in 1952. Larry's favorite school-related extracurricular was sports. Larry was a gifted athlete. He played three varsity sports at Mesick High School and played on an independent baseball league. Larry bowled on a competitive league for many years and is known for bowling a perfect 300 game. He also golfed throughout his adult life. Back in the day, if Larry wasn't selling gas, snowmobiles, boat motors, ice, camping supplies, ammo, guns, fishing gear, bait, or car parts at Larry's Sporting Goods (aka "The Station"), he was likely driving the wrecker, playing sports or out hunting. Larry was known for his marksmanship with a gun. One of Larry's noteworthy accomplishments includes killing two deer with one bullet. Larry was a village councilman for many years. He served as the Village President for 17 years. He often proudly referred to himself as "The Mayor of Mesick". Upon retirement, Larry and Millie traveled with friends around the country. Larry spent a lot of his time building golf clubs, golfing, and watching sports and old western films on television. Larry enjoyed cooking his specialties: goulash, chili, bean soup, popcorn bread and pancakes. He loved to eat morel mushrooms.


Larry will be dearly missed. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, October 13, 2018 at 11 a.m. at the Mesick United Methodist Church. There will be a luncheon held at the church immediately following.
