Laura Ellen Freeman

Cadillac, Michigan - Laura Ellen Freeman, of Cadillac passed away, with her family by her side, Friday, November 3, 2017, at the Samaritas of Cadillac, Michigan.  She was 89.
Laura was born on February 20, 1928, in Atchinson, Kansas to James and Myrtle (Castoe) Taylor.  Laura spent her young years living in Leavenworth, Kansas until her mother and brother James, moved to Vallejo, California. Laura graduated from a Catholic boarding school in Vallejo, where she learned to sew and crochet, and then became a nanny.  She met her husband, Rodney, in San Francisco at a roller-skating rink in 1946, while he was on leave in the Army Air Force. Rodney soon convinced Laura to marry him and she moved to Detroit, Michigan.  They were married November 22, 1947. They raised two children, and Laura was very involved with Girl Scouts, PTA, March of Dimes, selling World Book Encyclopedias, and bowling. Laura’s favorite pastime for the last 20 years was singing and sewing costumes with the Sweet Adelines, “The Spirit of Detroit Chorus,”  Region 2. An excellent seamstress, she built a tailoring shop in her home for customers, sewing many outfits and quilts for her family and friends. Laura and Rod loved to travel, taking many cruises to Mexico, Bahamas, Jamaica; and traveled with friends across the United States. The couple spent nearly 69 years together until his time of passing in May of 2016.

Laura is survived by one daughter, Judy (Don) Fogle, of Mason, Michigan; granddaughter Lisa (Paul) Sachs of Holland, Michigan; great-granddaughters, Helen and Ruby; granddaughter Amanda Fogle (Chris Graham) of Dansville, Michigan; great-granddaughter, Amber; grandson, Duke Fogle (Lori Dey) of Mason, Michigan; one son, Jack (Linda Wolter) Freeman of Lake City, Michigan; granddaughter, Sarah (Jason) Good, of Wichita, Kansas; great-grandson Ethan; granddaughters, Katie Freeman of Chicago, Illinois, and Jennifer Freeman (Scott Uzarski) of Grand Rapids, Michigan; and many other loving family members and friends.

The Freeman family is grateful for her many friends, including Sue Senauit, the Kotari family and friends from India, MacArthur street neighbors in Redford, MI, friends from Harbor View Apartments in Cadillac, Michigan, and staff at Samaritas of Cadillac, Michigan.
