Laura Smith Obituary

Cadillac - Laura Lee Smith, longtime resident of Manton, passed away on Saturday, June 2, 2018 at home with family by her side. She was 80.

Laura was born on March 9, 1938, in Norfolk, Virginia to Melford Lee and Adele (Parker) Bosco. Laura met and entered into marriage with Raymond Kahl Smith, while he was stationed in Virginia as a U.S. Navy submarine radioman, who preceded her in death in 2000.

Laura made a lasting career working with the State Of Michigan for what was the unemployment office, the FIA, before eventually the Department of Human Services.  She took great care in her role with the State as well as pride from the ability to help so many others in need.  Laura was a kind and loving person that deeply enjoyed the opportunities she had with her family.  She often could often be found reading a good book, taking in lunch with dear friends, planning her next trip to Virginia to visit family or the beach.  She created many genuine friendships with those she crossed paths with during her journey or had the pleasure to work with.  Laura will be missed by her lunch buddies, Bill, Dana and Delores; her former co-workers; special friends, Dorothy, Helen, and Jackie; and of course her beloved family, including her "good daughter", Roxeanne. She very recently reminded family that she was also proud to be a rebel from the south!

Laura is survived by her son, Norman E. Smith of Mt. Pleasant; daughter, Arla (Chris) Schumacher of Cadillac; six grandchildren, Kahl (Rachel), Denny, Kevin, Alexandria, Chad (Tina), and Kristyn (Mike); nine great-grandchildren; a sister-in-law, Betty; a cousin, Joyce; and many other loving family members and friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Ray, and a brother, Norman Bosco.

Cremation has taken  place and private family services will be held.

Memorials may be directed to Children's Charters of Marion or the charity of one's choice
