Manton - Linda J. Wallender, longtime Manton resident passed away peacefully on Sunday, July 22, 2018 at Seasons of Life AFC Home near Lake City. She was 70.
Linda was born into a large family on September 24, 1947, in Minnesota to Merle and Maggie (Wilroth) Rowland. Linda grew up a farm girl in rural Minnesota as number 13 of the 14 children in her family. Following graduation she made her way to Minnesota State University, Mankato, in pursuit of her degree in education. While attending school her path crossed with a fellow student, Marvin Wallender. The two were joined in marriage on December 30, 1967, celebrating over 50 years together. Linda made her living as an elementary teacher with Manton schools retiring after 24 years of service.
Linda was a faithful and active part of the Manton United Methodist Church. She volunteered her time and energy with the food pantry and just about anywhere else that was in need. Linda enjoyed crafts and spent down time working a cross-stitch, puzzle, or quilting project. She shared many wonderful memories with friends and family while playing card games. For a number of years following her career, Linda, continued to tutor and help children along their way. Linda was recognized for her multiple attributes, giving nature, and her love of community in 2015 when she became Citizen of the Year.
Linda is survived by her loving husband, Marvin (Linda) Wallender of Manton; her sons, Jeremy (Sarah) Wallender of Manton, and Greg (Veronique) Wallender of California; her daughter, Kelly Poynor of Manton; seven grandchildren, Madison, Cooper, Ella, Jack, Adalyn, Griffin, and Max; as well as numerous nieces and nephews, and many other loving family members and friends.
Visitation for friends and family will be held on Tuesday, July 31, from 2:00 pm until 4:00 pm and from 6:00 pm until 8:00 pm at the Hall-Holdship Funeral Home. Funeral services will follow on Wednesday, August 1st at the Manton United Methodist Church at 11:00 am. Linda will be laid to rest at Fairview Cemetery.
