Lois I. (Holland) Helmboldt

Mount Pleasant - Lois Irene Helmboldt, of Mount Pleasant and formerly of Marion, passed away on Tuesday, October 23, 2018 at the Medilodge of Mt. Pleasant. She was 92.

Lois was born November 6, 1925, in Cadillac, Michigan to Ralph and Gladys (Pike) Holland. She entered into marriage with Melvin F. Helmboldt on February 17, 1944, in Marion, Michigan, celebrating 58 years together until his passing in 2002.

Lois attended the country school in Marion before becoming a graduate of Marion High School in 1943.  She went on to earn her degree from Central Michigan University and began a long career as a teacher for Marion Public School in 1961. Lois could often be found creating the next gift for a loved one by sewing, knitting, or crocheting.  She was an avid reader and lover of music, often joining in to sing.  Lois was a member of St. Agnes Catholic Church and Altar Society, part of the Marion Centennial Book, 20th Century Club, Michigan Education Association, and Michigan Association of Retired School Personnel (MARSP).  Her children and especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren were the light of her life and she will be deeply missed by many.  

Lois is survived by two of her children; her son, Ron (Cathy) Helmboldt of Manistee, and daughter, Jan (Ron) Bowers of Howard City; grandchildren; Bob (Lisa) Gouin, Patrick (Jessica) Gouin, Brian (Cathy) Booher, Andrew (Stacy) Helmboldt, and Joseph (Carrie) Helmboldt; one sister, Lorraine (James) Stipes of California, 13 great grandchildren; as well as many other loving family members and friends. 

She was preceded in death by her daughter, Dianne J. Bregenzer; husband, Melvin; and  brothers, Ralph Jr., Alfred, and James Holland; and one sister, Beatrice (Bill) Bloom.

Visitation will be held on October 31, 2018 from 6:00 pm until 8:00 pm at the Funeral Home.  Funeral services will follow Thursday, November 1, 2018 at 11:00 am, also at the Fosanught-Holdship Funeral Home.  Officiating will be Rev. Joseph Fix. Interment will be held at the Greenwood Cemetery in Marion.  Memorial contributions may be directed to Heartland Hospice or the Disabled American Veterans.
