Owosso, Michigan - Meda Mildred Whaley-Cockeram, of Owosso and formerly of the Cadillac area, passed away on Friday, January 18, 2019 at the Hospice House of Shiawassee County. She was 93.
Meda was born on January 11, 1926, in Berkley, Michigan and raised by Floyd and Ruth (Leonard) Whaley. She was strong in her faith and raised her family as a pastor's wife over the course of 43 years. Meda was an influential and proud mother and grandmother who was a guiding force to many children, even outside her own, as she helped to found a church bible camp that still runs in Honor, MI, to this day. She also served as the Past President for the Bible Mission Inc. out of Harrietta and will be deeply missed by many.
Meda is survived by her loving family; her children, Darlene (Dale) McLaughlin, David (Vicki) Whaley, Dawn (Michael) Guttierrez, and Lacy (Marty) Swartz; a daughter-in-law, Cindy Whaley; numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren and a great-great-grandchild anticipated soon; as well as many other loving family members and friends.
She was preceded in death by her birth father, Martin Gee; her parents, Floyd and Ruth Whaley; her husband, Clarence Whaley; second husband, Henry Katerberg; third husband, Gene Cockeram; her brother, Erwin Whaley and her son, Michael Whaley.
Funeral services will be held at 12 noon, on Wednesday, January 23, 2019 at the Minar Bible Church in Mesick, with visitation one hour prior. Officiating will be Rev. Bruce Rose. She will be laid to rest alongside her family at the Maple Hill Cemetery in Cadillac.
