Michael Gottschling, 87, of Roscommon passed away on Saturday September 15, 2018 at home surrounded by his loving family.
Michael was born on April 17, 1931 in Romania to Michael and Maria (Graves) Gottschling. He grew up in Romania and then moved to Austria for several years. On February 6, 1954 in Austria, Michael was married to Sara Kramer. They then moved to the United States where Michael worked as a Mold Maker for General Motors for many years before retiring. The couple moved to Markey Township from Madison Heights in 2000. Michael was a member of St. John Lutheran Church. He enjoyed golf at the Redwood Golf Club, and woodworking especially doing building projects on his own home. Michael enjoyed music, played the organ and accordion and belong to a band in his younger days. He was an avid outdoorsman and loved feeling the sunshine upon him no matter what the temperature outside.
Surviving Mr. Gottschling are his two sons, Michael (Sheri) Gottschling of Clinton Township and Will Gottschling of Troy; five daughters, Sara (Gordon) Phillips of Caro, Hilda (Tim) Lacey of Largo, Florida, Christine Fricke of Troy, Elfride (Walter) Astudillo of New York and Katie (Chris) Morgan of Sterling Heights; seventeen grandchildren; sixteen great grandchildren; two brothers, John (Carol) Gottschling of Roscommon, and Steve (Paula) Gottschling of Warren; sister-in-law Eva Gottschling of Warren and several nieces and nephews. Michael was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Sara (Kramer) Gottschling; granddaughter, Jessica; brother, Edward and Sister, Maria Stauch.
Funeral Services for Michael Gottschling will be conducted at 11:00 am on Thursday September 20, 2018 from St. John Lutheran Church with Rev. Ted Voll officiating. Interment will be in Crestview Cemetery, Markey Township. Visitation will be held on Thursday from 9:00 am until the time of the service at 11:00 am. Memorial contributions in memory of Michael are asked to be directed to Munson Hospice or the American Cancer Society. Christler Funeral Home, Prudenville Chapel is serving the family.
