Michael Lee Moloney, 74, of Houghton Lake passed away on Wednesday November 7, 2018 at home with his loving family by his side.
Mike was born on August 25, 1944 in Lansing, Michigan to Wilbur "Gene" and Marjorie (Gauss) Moloney. He grew up in the Lansing area graduating from Lansing Eastern where he excelled in sports and was a state champion wrestler. On June 21, 1969 in North Muskegon Mike married Sue Whitman. He worked as a Line Supervisor for GM from which he retired. Mike had a place at Houghton Lake since the early 1970's and moved to the Houghton Lake area from DeWitt in 1999 after his retirement. He was a member of the Houghton Lake Eagles, Houghton Lake Moose, Houghton Lake Elks and enjoyed golfing, playing cards, hunting, fishing, and was an excellent pool player. Mike loved spending time with family and friends.
Surviving Mr. Moloney are his two daughters, Melissa (Alex) Presley of Mason, and Nicole (Todd) McCastle of DeWitt; son, Michael (longtime friend Suzy) Moloney of St. Johns; five grandchildren, Brittney, A.J., Caleb, Haley, and Cooper; great grandson, Parker; sister, Sue Woodard of DeWitt; former wife, Sue Hildenbrand of Higgins Lake; longtime companion, Marilyn Mero of Houghton Lake; two special buddies, Bob and Paul; several nieces and nephews. Michael was preceded in death by his parents, and brother, Donald Moloney.
Funeral Services for Michael Lee Moloney will be conducted at 11:00 am Monday November 12, 2018 from Christler Funeral Home- Houghton Lake Chapel with Chaplin Randy Brokaw officiating. Interment will be in Lake Township Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Sunday November 11, 2018 from 3:00 pm to 6:00 pm at Christler Funeral Home- Houghton Lake Chapel. Memorial contributions in memory of Michael are asked to be directed to Compassus Hospice, 3217 M-55 Suite B, West Branch, MI 48661, or the Roscommon County Animal Shelter.
