Cadillac - Mildred "Millie" Fern Fockler, of Cadillac and formerly of Houghton Lake passed away on Tuesday, December 25, 2018 at Sunnyside Senior Living, following a long illness. She was 95.
She was born on September 3, 1923, in Ridge Farm, Illinois to James and Della (Oxyendine) Planck. In 1947, Millie entered into marriage with Donald William Fockler in Cadillac. Millie was raised in Cadillac before spending time in Laingsburg, Michigan and eventually Houghton Lake for numerous years. She spent early years with the Cadillac Chair Company during WWII before putting her organizational and people skills to work acting as secretary for the Laingsburg Public Schools and St. Johns Lutheran Church for several years. Millie was well known for her cooking and baking and enjoyed her time in the kitchen.
Millie is survived by her children; her daughter, Nanette Kimbel of Cadillac, and sons, Kenneth Fockler of Virginia and Michael Fockler of Grand Rapids; grandchildren, Jessica (Bernard) Thompson of Vermont and Anthony Fockler of Arizona; her sisters, Eva Kardos and Helen Rees; as well as many other loving family members and friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Donald William Fockler in 2006, her parents, and siblings John Planck, Lena Martin, Orville Planck, James Planck, Bernard Planck, Ruth Dickson, and Matthew Planck.
Memorial services will be held on Monday, June 17, 2019 at 11 a.m. with visitation held one hour prior at Hitesman-Holdship Funeral Home. Interment will take place at Maple Hill Cemetery in Cadillac.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be directed to the St. Jude Children's Hospital.
