Nick Hellis

Nick Hellis, 91, of Houghton Lake passed away on Thursday October 25, 2018 at Grayling Continuing Care Center.

Nick was born on November 20, 1926 in Dante, Virginia to John and Hattie (Surratt) Hellis. He served as a Gunner's Mate Third Class in the Navy during World War II. Nick worked as a die sinker for General Motors Lansing Forge Plant from which he retired. On January 24, 1948 in Perry, Michigan, Nick was married to Martha Rosella Masters. Nick was a former member of the Eagles and VFW. He was an avid outdoorsman enjoying hunting and fishing.

Surviving Mr. Hellis are his loving wife of 70 years, Martha Rosella Hellis of Houghton Lake; two daughters, Janet Hellis of Greece, and Karen (Peter Salisberry) Hellis of Lansing; grandson, Christopher (Leane Shayer) Hellis of San Francisco, CA; sister, Rebecca (Bruce) Jessee of Church Hill, TN. Nick was preceded in death by his parents and seven siblings. 

Graveside services for Nick Hellis will be conducted at 2:00 pm Monday October 29, 2018 at Roscommon Township Cemetery, Houghton Lake. Christler Funeral Home, Houghton Lake Chapel is serving the family. Condolences can be sent to the family online at www.christler-holdship.com
