Norva A. (Miller) Simmons

Cadillac - Norva Annette Simmons, of Manton, passed away on Monday, February 12, 2018 at Samaritas Senior Living. She was 82.

Norva was born on June 1, 1935, in Sears, Michigan to parents Norris and Catherine (Cox) Miller. Following a chance encounter during Norva's nursing training, and Wayne's stop at a Flint Hospital, the two were wed on December 10, 1954, in Angola, IN.

Norva and Wayne were strong in their faith and able to serve many people and congregations from Frederic, MI to Texas, and back. They eventually settled in Manton making it their home following a brief time in Wisconsin and entering into retirement. Norva worked at several places along the way, mostly in sales, but enjoyed the opportunities she had to express her talent for sewing. She worked as a seamstress creating clothes and eventually upholstery for cars. As a young girl in 4-H she was even an award winner for some of the dresses she created. As her family grew, so did her sewing, Norva created many of the outfits for her children to wear. In later years, Norva, began to knit more and could often be found knitting something new to give away or provide to someone in need. Norva, was a proud mother and loving grandmother, who will be deeply missed.

Norva is survived by her family; Wayne (Rose) Simmons of Marion, Daryl (Nancy) Simmons of Manton, Gary (Kym) Simmons of Burton, Alan (Patty) Simmons of McBain, Mary (Brian) Braden of Burton, Nancy (Vince) Scungio of Manton, Chris Simmons of Arlington, TX, and Michele Willis of Owosso; 33 grandchildren; 49 great-grandchildren; her brother, Norris "Bud" (Kate) Miller; one sister, Marda Jehnsen; several nieces and nephews; a sister-in-law, Alice Simmons; as well as many other loving family members, friends, and neighbors.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Wayne; her parents; one son, David Lee Miller; and two granddaughters, Felicia and Meagan.

Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, February 17, 2018 at the NorthernLight Church of Cadillac, located at 115 Cobb Street in Cadillac. Officiating will be Rev. Tad Mellish. Visitation will be from 12:00 noon until the time of the service, also at the church.

Interment will take place at Fairview Cemetery in Manton at a later date in the spring.
