Richard Christie Obituary

Marion - Richard L. Christie passed away on June 23rd, 2018 at Munson Healthcare in Cadillac, Michigan. He was 74.

Richard was born in Marion, Michigan on June 25th, 1943. He was a proud 50-year member of the Carpenter’s Union and a 40-year member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles #4087. Richard worked for many years at the Nuclear Power Plant in Midland, Michigan. He also worked as a carpenter, on oil rigs and did road construction. At the age of 18, he owned and raced stock cars. Spending his summers camping with family and friends, ice fishing with his grandsons, attending Figure 8 Demolition Derbies, going to Merritt Speedway and watching NASCAR were his favorite past-times. He was an excellent carpenter and built the house where he and Nancy raised their family and resided for 40 years. You would often see him ‘Patrolling’ the streets of Marion and visiting his panhandler friends in town.

He will be sadly missed by his wife of 52 years, Nancy (Jorah) Christie; children, Richielene (Brian) Hoekema of Marion and Eric (Sarah) Christie of LeRoy; his favorite people which referred to him simply as ‘Papa’, Nathan Beebe, Caleb Beebe, Richie Beebe, Michael Christie, Devin Christie, Silviana Fassett Damian Francis and Daisha Francis; great-grandchildren, Jameson, Aurora, Karston, Aubreana, Connor and Triton; brothers, Ben (JoAnn) Christie of Freeport and Joseph (Vicky) Christie of Tustin and many special nephews and nieces.

Richard was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph and Eva (Tisron) Christie; brothers, Satch Christie and Oral ‘Bud’ Christie; sister, Lucielle; aunts and uncles; grandson, Nicholas Beebe.
