Shirley A. (Olson) Edwards

Cadillac, Michigan - Shirley Alma Edwards, of LeRoy, passed away on Sunday, August 12, 2018 at Samaritas Senior Living in Cadillac surrounded by her family. She was 92.

Shirley was born on June 3, 1926, in Brooklyn, Michigan to William and Ethel (Crawford) Olson. She entered into marriage with Russell  Edwards on March 15, 1946, at the Covenant Church in LeRoy, Michigan. The couple spent 41 years together until his time of passing in 1987. Shirley started her career working for Riverside Electric, she then went on to be the head cook for the Kettunen Center in Tustin, and then later spent the remainder of her career working for Montgomery Ward until her time of retirement. She enjoyed decorating cakes and made many cakes for weddings, birthdays and anniversaries, including making her own 30th wedding anniversary cake. Shirley liked to spend time outdoors in her garden and watching the birds, snowmobiling, and going camping with her friends and family. In her spare time, she would knit, crochet and even sew clothes for her grandchildren. Her family was the light of her life, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was a faithful member of the Dighton Wesleyan Church, which she helped with building the new church. Shirley served as both a treasurer for many years and a Sunday school teacher for over 30 years for the church. 

Shirley is survived by her two daughters, Vivian (Terry) Brandal of Marion, and Jane (Jeff) Brandal of Marion; six grandchildren, Valerie Brandal, Jason (Tanya) Brandal, Kim Disu, Matt (Sandra) Brandal, Daniel (Becky) Brandal and Sarah (Nick) Knust; eight great-grandchildren, Jacob Brandal, Andrew Disu, Erin Brandal, Angelina Brandal, Logan Brandal, Maya Disu, Gavin Knust and Grayson Knust; one brother, William (Celly) Olson; one sister-in-law, Alva (Bob) Schrader; and many other loving family members and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, William and Ethel; her husband, Russell; three children, Rusty, David and Wendy; one great-granddaughter, Erica; and two sisters, Helen and Marie; and her special driving and getting lost partner, sister-in-law, Mabel Edwards.

Visitation will be held on Wednesday, August 15, 2018, from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. at Fosnaught-Holdship Funeral Home. Funeral services will be conducted on Thursday, August 16, 2018 at 2 p.m. with visitation held one hour prior at the Dighton Wesleyan Church with Rev. Deemer to preside. Interment will take place at Maple Hill Cemetery in LeRoy.
