Theresa Schmeichel Obituary

Lake City - Theresa M. Schmeichel, formerly of Frankfort,  Glen Lake, Cedar and Traverse City, passed away on Wednesday, February 13, 2019 at Maple Ridge Assisted Living in Lake City. She was 92.

Theresa was born on May 15, 1926, in Kalamazoo, Michigan to John and Frances (Feldhap) Brennan. She grew up and attended school in Kalamazoo working toward her career as a Registered Nurse. A chance encounter with a X-ray technician lead to over 64 years of marriage with Warren Emil Schmeichel, when the two were wed on August 5, 1950, in Kalamazoo. Warren preceded her in death on June 26, 2015.

Theresa continued in nursing in Grand Rapids and Frankfort while raising a family.  She served as a Registered Nurse at Paul Oliver Memorial Hospital then accepted the position of Director of Nursing at The Maples in Frankfort.   Theresa and Warren owned and operated Schmeichel's Edgewater resort on Glen Lake while also working as a nurse in Frankfort. Theresa and her husband were active with  the Lutheran church in Glen Arbor and Traverse City  as well as the Gideons International.  

Theresa is survived by; her son, Paul (Gail Zissler) Schmeichel; daughters, Pam Richards and Cindy (John) Rice; three grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; as well as many other loving family members and friends.  She was preceded in death by her husband, Warren; her parents and siblings. 

Cremation has taken place and graveside services will be held at Maple Grove Cemetery, located on S. Dune Highway (M-109), on Wednesday, June 26th at ​1 ​pm, friends may join the family prior to the service for a time of fellowship at Joe's Friendly Tavern, 11015 Front St. in Empire.   For more details or any questions please email Theresa's son, Paul at schmeichelpa@yahoo.com.
