Walter D. Ahrens, age 73 of St. Ignace, formerly of Lake City, passed away peacefully
surrounded by his family and friends on Monday, December 09, 2019 at the Spectrum Healthcare Butterworth Hospital in Grand Rapids.
Walter was born November 28, 1946 in Petoskey to Fredrick and Anna (Andress) Ahrens.
He was married on August 10, 1969 to Shirley J. Fauver in Saginaw.
Walter served in the United States Army from 1966 to 1968. He is a member of the Sault Ste Marie Band of Chippewa Indians and he will be greatly missed by all.
Walter is survived by his wife Shirley Ahrens of St. Ignace, daughters Michele Ahrens of Lake City and Heather (Chuck) Burhans of Stanwood, sons Walter Ahrens II of Indiana and Tracy (Yvonne) Ahrens of Lake City. He is also survived by several brothers, Keith Ahrens, Paul Ahrens, Dave Ahrens and Gary Ahrens and sisters Patsy Ahrens and Linda Edwards, as well as 13 grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents and five siblings.
A memorial service will be held at 12:00 noon on January 4, 2020 at the Young-Holdship Funeral Home in Lake City with Military Honors presented by the Lake City American Legion Post 300. Visitation will be from 10:00 am until service time. A luncheon will follow at the Lake City American Legion Post 300.
