Lake City, Michigan - Wayne "Pete" Samuel Wineland, age 85 of Carson City, Michigan, passed away on Friday, December 7, 2018 at Whispering Pines Assisted Living in Lake City, Michigan surrounded by family.
Wayne was born on September 5, 1933 in Carson City, the son of Howard and Mary (Sweet) Wineland. He graduated from Carson City High School where he enjoyed playing sports. Wayne served in the United States Army during the Korean War, while stationed in Germany as an assistant machine gunner. Wayne married Marilyn "Speed" (as friends called her) Kapustka on May 25, 1957 at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Carson City. He retired from Federal Mogul Corporation, in Greenville, in 1988 after 33 years of service. Wayne spent his retirement years watching his grandson's sporting events, spending time with his family and slowly cruising the countryside in his home-town.
Wayne is survived by his children, Steve Wineland of Bath, Mark Wineland, Janae (Mike) Smith of Carson City and Kari Wineland (Steve Wirth) of Cadillac; grandsons, Jason (Megan) Smith, Matt (Brielle) Smith, Michael Wineland and Sean Wineland; great-grandchildren, Colton Smith, eason Smith and Calliea Smith; and many other loving family members and friends.
He is preceded in death by his parents, wife, Marilyn, in 2009, sister, Donna Sabin, in 2014 and brother, Paul Wineland, in 2016.
A private family memorial service will be held at a later date.
