Barbara Jean (Kolar) Lindahl, age 84, of Lake City, Michigan—formerly a longtime resident of Algonquin, Illinois—passed away peacefully on December 10, 2025.
Barbara is lovingly remembered by her daughters, Susan (Michael) Tubacki and Kimberly (Thomas) Erber; her five cherished grandchildren, Nicole, Lucas, and Julia Tubacki, and Samantha and Jack Erber; her sister Marilyn (Kolar) Manthey; and her beloved Labrador, Ella. She was preceded in death by her devoted husband of 58 years, Krister Lindahl; her daughter Kristine Lindahl; her parents Frank Kolar and Dorothy (Reeder Kolar) Jacobs; and her stepfather Ralph Jacobs.
Born in Berwyn, Illinois, Barbara spent her early years in Chicago, where she married Krister in 1963. In 1967, they settled in Algonquin, where Barbara became active in the Jaycee-ettes and began her professional career at Algonquin State Bank, later serving as a dispatcher for the Algonquin Police Department until her retirement. Never one to stop learning, Barbara earned a horticulture degree from McHenry County College and devoted her time to gardening and volunteering with the Algonquin Garden Club.
Barbara was the great-granddaughter of Lake City’s first settler, Daniel Reeder. She cherished summers at the family cottage in Lake City, Michigan, where she spent her days fishing, swimming, gardening, and exploring Northern Michigan. Throughout her life, Barbara shared her love for Lake Missaukee with her family creating lasting family memories.
A private family memorial service will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association at act.alz.org.
