Barbara Reynolds Obituary

Manton - Barbara Ruth (Valle) Reynolds, of Manton, was welcomed into Heaven by her Lord and Savior on Sunday, February 11, 2024, with family by her side. She was 97.

Barb was born on August 22, 1926, in Detroit, Michigan to Henning and Ella (Carlson) Hedlund. She spent her early childhood in Detroit then moved with her parents to a farm west of Manton at the age of 5.  She attended Carpenter School and became a graduate of Manton High School with the class of 1944.  After high school, Barbara was employed in the office at Parson's industries in Traverse City.  In 1947 she married Harry Valle and moved to Grand Rapids.  Harry was called back into service for the Navy and the two were stationed at the Grosse Isle Naval Air Station for two years.  After serving, the couple moved back to a farm next to Barbara's parents in Manton.  Barbara was a stay at home mom until her children were in school.  She then began working at Harrison's Grocery Store and the Manton Bank, eventually after 18 years she retired as a program assistant for the United States  Department of Agriculture in 1990.

After her husband Harry died in 1974, Barbara married David Reynolds.  Together they made their home in Boon for 12 years before returning to Manton to be closer to family.  David passed away in 2018.  Barbara was an active member of Rollins Christian Fellowship Church, where she helped organize and cook for many events and funeral luncheons.  Barbara's life was her family.  She loved to bake and cook for her family and always hosted Thanksgiving and Christmas.  Her famous swiss steak was a favorite request for many events.  She had a passion for quilting and gave quilts to each of her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren for their birthdays, Christmas, or other special events.  She enjoyed coordinating the fabric colors and  patterns to make a quilt uniquely special for that person.  Barbara was also a member of the Liberty Ladies Aid.  She loved tending to her flower and vegetable gardens.  Barbara was a lifelong Detroit Tiger and Manton Rangers fan.  She attended many games supporting her children and grandchildren.

Barbara is survived by her daughters, Karen (Dennis) Atkinson, Patricia Hiller, and Mary (Michael) Hicks; seven grandchildren, Amy (Eric) Salani, Michelle (Richard) Baldwin, Kari (Walter) Hays, Matt (Emily) Hicks, Ryan (Kaylie) Hiller, Melissa (Jon) Gilbert, and Marc (Donielle) Hicks; 22 great-grandchildren; as well as many other loving family members and friends.   She was preceded in death by her parents; both her husbands; one sister and  brother-in-law, Elaine (Vane) McDaniel; her brother and sister-in-law, Robert (Jean) Hedlund; and a son-in-law, Mike Hiller.

Funeral services will be held at 11am on Saturday, February 17, 2024 at Hall-Holdship Funeral Home, with visitation one hour prior.  Following, there will be a procession to Fairview cemetery in Manton and concluding the committal a luncheon for family and friends will be provided at Living Word Ministries.  Memorial contributions may be directed to Hospice of Michigan, 932 N.
