Betty June (Damron) Hill

Betty June Hill, 77, of Houghton Lake passed away on Sunday October 20, 2024 at her home with her loving family.

Betty was born on June10, 1947 at what was commonly known as Treasure Island in Hornersville, Missouri to parents Frank and Eloise(McClure) Damron.

Betty picked cotton, and pulled peanuts as a very young girl and cared for a woman who was disabled as a result of a traffic accident.  Her family lived in five different locations in the Hornersville/Senath Missouri area mostly in poverty even traveling with family to the western portion of Michigan in the summer time to pick apples and cherries and then traveling back to the Missouri boot heel. Betty was thirteen years of age when the family moved to Mt. Morris, Michigan in November of 1960 where she experienced having indoor running water for the very first time.  She never attended Kindergarten, however Betty was a good student being able to both take shorthand and type with accuracy in excess of 100 words a minute and upon high school graduation enabling her to be considered for a job in Washington DC.  About ten days after graduation, she met her future husband, David Hill, and they were married about nine weeks later on September 4, 1965 in Swartz Creek, Michigan.

They Lived in Clarkston, Michigan, Phoenix, Arizona, and Naperville, Illinois as her husband's employment took them to the various major cities of Detroit, Phoenix, and Chicago providing a lifestyle beyond her ever-imagined expectations as she was growing up.  Upon retirement they moved to Houghton Lake in year 2008.

In addition to her parents being deceased, she lost a baby brother, Tommy in 1956 of Senath, Missouri, an older brother Carrie in 2003 of Rector, Arkansas, a younger sister, Carolyn in 2015 of Flushing, Michigan, and an older sister, Peggy in 2023 of Mt. Morris, Michigan.

Surviving in addition to her husband of 59 years is daughter Melissa Michelle(Sean) Murphy of Holly, son David Paul Hill of Waterford, Michigan, and son Derek Donald Hill of Houghton Lake. Siblings Jimmy(Cindy) Damron of Colorado, Marilyn(Dale) Smith of Clio, Joyce(Dave) Coon of Frankenmuth, Terry(Natty) Damron of Colorado, Debbie(Alan) Arndt of Washington, Michigan and sister-in-law Bernice Frey of Arkansas.   Grandchildren, Jeffery(Brittany) Gribble of Georgia, Jessica Gribble of Georgia, Caressa(Curtis) Kirby of Fenton, Nykia(Michael) Compton of Waterford, David Justin Hill of Waterford, Josh Hill of Waterford, Jordan Wood of Colorado, and Kaili Fish of Dearborn. There are also 16 great grandchildren as well as many nieces and nephews.

Funeral Services for Betty June Hill will be conducted at 12:00pm Monday October 28, 2024 from Houghton Lake Global Methodist Church with Rev. Kevin Harbin officiating. Interment will be in Roscommon Township Cemetery, Houghton Lake. Visitation will be held on Monday from 10:00am to 12:00pm at the church.  Memorial contributions in memory of Betty are asked to be directed to the charity of the donor's choice.
