Betty Jane Smith, age 84 of Lake City passed away November 5, 2023 at her home.
Betty was born February 25, 1939 in Lansing to Lindon and Marguerite (Miller) Appleton.
She was united in marriage to Roland M. Smith February 14, 1959 in Lansing. He preceded her in death in 1993. Betty spent many years with her significant other, Charlie Elmquist. They enjoyed their time in Florida before his passing in 2017.
Betty had been employed as a secretary with the Department of Transportation for the State of Michigan prior to moving to Lake City. She had worked for the former Waterfront Newspaper, Everett Realty, and Lake City Area Schools prior to her retirement in 2001. Betty was a former deacon and a member of the Cadillac First Presbyterian Church.
Betty is survived by her children, Lynne (Rick) Nolan of McBain, LeAnn (Bill) Vokes of Lake City and Craig Smith of Lake City; grandchildren Ryan (Sam) Nolan, Matt (Beth) Nolan, Christopher (Amanda) Nolan, Scott (Katie) Vokes, Kristen (Chad) Allen, Curtis Ahrens, Chelsie Ahrens and Courtney Winrick. She is also survived by her great grandchildren, Devin (Molly), Karalyn, Conner, Chase, Jayda, Alyssa, Salena, Abigail, Ava, Amelia, Elisabeth, Olivia, Roland, Grace, Annabelle and Emma.
Betty is also survived by her dear friends, Mike and Cindy Allen, her church pew buddies, Sally Dahlquist and Joan Tossey and many others at Cadillac First Presbyterian Church.
Betty was also preceded in death by her parents, a brother, Howard and a great grandson, Ryan John Nolan, Jr.
Funeral services will be held 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, November 9, 2023 at the Young-Holdship Funeral Home in Lake City with Pastor Michael Horlocker officiating. Visitation will be on Wednesday, November 8, 2023 from 4:00 to 6:00 pm at the funeral home and also from 10:00 am until service time on Thursday.
Burial will take place in the Chapel Hill Memorial Garden in Lansing.
Memorial contributions may be directed to Munson Manor or Munson Hospice.
